Aftercare – Facial Filler

What to expect after your Facial Filler treatment:

The post-treatment experience will be different for everyone, however immediately after your treatment you may experience one or more of the following:

  • Swelling
  • Bruising
  • Red needle puncture marks
  • Tenderness
  • Itching in the area

There common side effects should resolve on their own over the following days – weeks after your treatment. The true result will be achieved approximately 4 weeks after your treatment, and a review to see if further treatments are needed is recommended.

Things to avoid after your treatment with facial fillers:

  • Avoid touching your face for 6 hours following your treatment
  • Ideally, avoid oil-based makeup for 24 hours
  • Do not expose the area to intense heat as this can irritate the skin
  • Do not apply pressure to the area’s treated for the first few days following treatment
  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours as alcohol can thin the blood
  • Avoid use of skincare with ingredients such as AHAs, retinol and vitamin C for 24 hours
  • Avoid facials, facial waxing, chemical peels, IPL or skin needling for 2 weeks following treatment
  • Avoid sleeping on your face as this may disturb the filler

Pain, Swelling, and Bruising Relief:

  • Pain relief such as paracetamol may be taken as directed by your Nurse. Avoid medications such as ibuprofen.
  • Swelling relief: a cool compress applied regularly within the first 24 hours following your treatment may help to reduce swelling (using gauze – do not apply ice directly to the skin).

Remaining elevated can also assist with preventing and relieving swelling.

  • Brusing relief: The nurse may provide you with some Hirudoid cream if they suspect bruising may occur. We advise that you plan your appointment accordingly to allow for bruising to subside before any important events or occasions.

Follow-up Appointment:
A follow-up appointment is recommended so the Nurse can assess the results of the treatment and make any corrections if necessary. It is important to allow the fillers to settle so that the true result is evident before making any adjustments. The results are individual and will depend on the type of filler used, the client compliance with aftercare as well as personal factors such as metabolism. As a result, it may take more than one treatment to achieve the desired results.
