What to expect from your treatment with PRP

The results from a PRP treatment are gradual. It will take approximately 6 weeks for the treatment to stimulate healing and so it is important to follow the aftercare recommendations in order to achieve the best results from your treatment.

It is normal to experience slight redness, bruising, swelling, tenderness and an itching sensation in the treatment area following your treatment with PRP. These responses will resolve on their own in the following few days post treatment.

What to Avoid following PRP

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours
  • Avoid touching your face for 4 hours
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours
  • Avoid intense heat such as hot showers, saunas and sunlight
  • Avoid skincare with active ingredients such as AHAs, Retinol, and Vitamin C
  • Avoid facials, facial waxing, IPL, microdermabrasion and energy-based treatments for 2 weeks
  • Avoid massaging the treated area unless instructed by your injector.
  • Avoid make-up until the day following the treatment being healed. A light mineral or water-based makeup is recommended.
  • Avoid smoking.

Recovery after PRP

  • An in-clinic LED light therapy treatment can assist in the healing following your PRP treatment.
  • Pain relief such as paracetamol may be used if needed.
  • Sleeping elevated using 2 pillows may assist with swelling.

Follow up Appointment
The number of treatments needed differs between individuals. Most patients will have 3 PRP treatments approximately 1-2 moths apart for best results. From there, maintenance treatments every 6 months is recommended in order to maintain results.
