What to expect from your IPL Treatment

It is normal to notice some redness, swelling, tenderness or a sunburn-like sensation in the treated area immediately after your IPL treatment. This will generally disappear within a few days. If the treatment was for dark spots, these areas may darken and will then slowly fall off.

If you experience blistering or feel unwell or concerned by any aspect of your treatment, please call us at the clinic.

What to Avoid following your IPL treatment:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours
  • Avoid direct and indirect sunlight – use a sunscreen at all times
  • Avoid hot showers, hot bath, saunas and spas for 48 hours
  • Avoid facials, facial waxing, peels, microdermabrasion, more IPL or energy-based treatments for 2 weeks
  • Do not exfoliate the skin for 7 days
  • Avoid picking at the treated area
  • Avoid makeup for 24 hours
  • Avoid skincare with Glycolic acid or AHAs , Retinol and/or Vitamin C ingredients included
  • Avoid alcohol for 24 hours

Recovery After IPL

  • A cold compress can be used as required to help with the redness and swelling.
  • Once the heat has subsided, a hydrating moisturiser can be used regularly.
  • Use sunscreen to help protect the skin from the sun.
  • Gently cleanse your face twice a day, and gently pat your skin dry rather than rubbing it.
  • Pain relief such as paracetamol can be taken if required to assist with pain relief.

Follow Up Appointment
A follow-up appointment can be made for 4-6 weeks after your treatment. It is likely that multiple sessions will be needed in order to achieve the best results. Additionally, maintenance sessions every 6-12 months is recommended to maintain your results.
